Phi Phi Island Hopping Tour Introduction
Since the corona virus lockdown in Thailand, tours and tourists attractions are opening up slowly but surely. We decided to take advantage and book a Phi Phi Island boat tour with Barracudas tours, so we could experience the beauty of the Thai islands for ourselves. Island hopping day trips are the easiest way to see as much as possible with as little hassle as possible.
What’s Included?
These tours are a great value because they include hotel pickup and drop off, an English speaking tour guide, water, lunch, and snorkeling gear.
What to Expect
Hotel pickup was at 8:30am and your driver will pick up other tour-goers along the way. We left from Ao Nang, Krabi by speed boat and were able to see great views of the city, hilly islands, and limestone mountains along the way. Our first stop was Bamboo Island.
Bamboo Island
Bamboo Island was actually my favorite stop. This island has pristine blue water of different shades and beautiful white sand. We enjoyed taking in the views, swimming at the beach, and taking loads of pictures.
The only difference since the pandemic is that you have to sign-in and do a temperature check before you can wander around the island.
After about 45 minutes here, we hopped back on the speed boat and headed to our next stop the Viking Cave.
Viking Cave
The Viking Cave is so named because drawings of viking ships were found inside the cave. The cave has interesting stalagmites hanging, but people are not allowed inside. This was just for a quick photo op, and we were off to our next destination Pileh Lagoon.
Pileh Lagoon
Pileh Lagoon is a blue lagoon surrounded by breathtaking limestone mountains. You can swim around and admire the rocks as close as you dare.
The waters here are calm, cool, and refreshing, and the mountains are fascinating and have lots of unique details to explore.
Then we sailed up a few hundred meters to see Lohsamah Bay.
Lohsamah Bay
Lohsamah Bay is where you can snorkel amongst hundreds of fish. There really was a wide variety to see and the water was calm and easy to swim in.
Unfortunately, for us it started to rain. The rain did not affect our snorkeling as we were already wet and in the water, but it made the rest of our speedboat ride a little bumpy! I’m proud we didn’t get seasick. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the rest of the tour albeit with cloudy skies.
If you want to see the fish and the rain storm for yourself. Please check out the full video below!
Maya Bay
We stopped by Maya Bay which looked quite mystical in the rain. Maya Bay is still not open to boats. Last year, the Thai government closed off the area to revitalize the natural environment of Maya Bay. This beach was made popular by the movie The Beach and thousands of tourists would pass through this small area every day.
Our last stop was Phi Phi Island.
Phi Phi Island
Phi Phi Island also known as Phi Phi Dong or the big island. Here, we got to eat a delicious buffet lunch and enjoy exploring the island. Many shops and hotels are still closed due to the near halt of tourism, but we were not there to shop or to stay. We were there for the views and Phi Phi Island does not disappoint rain or shine. It is an amazing place and definitely worth seeing.
How to Book
We booked this Phi Phi Island hopping tour through a local tour guide and paid around $90 per person. However, a few days later we found the same tour 50% off on Klook. I highly recommend booking the Phi Phi Island Tour through Klook. We’ve used them several times and have always been pleased with their service. You can use this link to get $5 off your first booking as well!
I also recommend checking out other island hopping tours as well. I also really enjoyed the 4 Islands Tour and can highly recommend it!
