Horse Riding on a Beach | Is It as Romantic as It Sounds

When I think of riding a horse on the beach, I imagine rose-colored sunsets and beautiful white horses running in slow motion on the beach.  I imagine a scene straight out of a romance novel, but is horse riding on a beach as romantic as it seems?

We wanted to see for ourselves by taking a half-day horse riding tour on the beach in Krabi, Thailand.

The Horse Riding Tour

We booked the half-day tour with Krabi Horse Riding which includes a tour of Ao Nam Mao beach where you get to see a volcanic lava rock beach and lovely views of limestone mountains in the background.

We also trotted through the Thai countryside seeing beautiful wildflowers, amazing scenery, and duck-filled ponds.

We ended the tour with the unique experience of swimming with the horses at high tide.  You have to ride the horses bare-backed in the water and the water got so deep it felt like the tide was going to carry us away. It was a little bit scary, but with our guide there, we felt comfortable that he knew the safest way to go. It was truly an unforgettable experience feeling the power of the horse underneath you while he swims!

The Horses

Our horses Smile and Dola were amazing!

Smile is a handsome boy and rightly named because he loves to smile and he loves to run much faster than I was expecting.

Dola is an independent girl who loves to splash and play in the water.

The horses were an absolute joy to be around.

The Romance?

Riding horse on a beach is fun, adventurous, and exhilarating! It’s not really romantic unless you make it so. I tried to make it romantic by sticking out my hand and gazing lovingly into David eyes. That really did up the romance level a lot!

So, romance is there if you create it, but this activity is more fun and adventurous, especially the swimming with the horse part. A note of caution…the horses farted and pooped in the water which I don’t consider romantic at all, but what can you do. It’s was an all natural experience!
