Thai Massage | A Cure for What Ails You

Self-care is essential.  Whenever you notice stiff and achy muscles, whether it be after a long flight or after being cooped up for months of a lockdown, a Thai massage can be a welcomed cure for what ails you.

We always enjoy getting a Thai massage whenever we arrive in Thailand.  Last year, for example, we landed in Bangkok after a 23-hour travel day, and keep our arrival day activities to a minimum.  Although we were excited to see as much of Bangkok as possible, we knew that we needed to take care of ourselves and our tired bodies first.  So, we got some food, we got a massage, and we went to sleep.  We like our arrival days to be as calm and relaxing as this, so we have the energy to survive a full day of touring the next morning.

This year, we needed a Thai massage for different reasons.  We took a 4-hour horse riding tour on the beach.  It was an amazing experience, but it left us really, really sore.  We knew a Thai massage could help, so we dropped in for a Thai massage at Jan Massage near Ao Nang Beach.

The masseuse will use her full body weight to release tension points.

We got an hour of traditional Thai massage enjoying how the masseuse used her full body weight to stretch, pull, and twist our bodies into positions that we didn’t think were possible.  It’s like someone else is doing yoga poses for you, giving you the best stretch of your life.

She’ll use her arm, her elbow, and her feet to release tension points, her elbow really getting in there for some serious deep tissue work.  It hurts so good, in my opinion, but you can always request less pressure if you prefer.

The Benefits of Thai Massage

Thai massage has many benefits including:

  1. Loosening your muscles for increased range of motion
  2. Relieving aches and pains
  3. Improving circulation
  4. Relaxing you for a good night’s sleep

Best Practices

We like to get our massages later in the evening so we can really get the benefit of improved sleep.  It’s also highly recommended that you drink lots of water and rest after any massage. You don’t want to have a massage and then go sightseeing immediately afterward as you may negate the benefits of the massage.

The most important thing though is that the Thai massage that we had was very effective at curing our horse riding aches and pains.  We couldn’t have been more pleased.

Massage is our favorite way to pamper ourselves both when we are at home and when we travel. We believe that massage is a helpful tool for curing chronic aches and pains, so it’s important to remember tools like massage are available and to use them regularly so it’s easier to stay limber, flexible, and pain-free throughout your life.
