What to Expect Kayaking at Ao Thalane

What’s nice about kayaking at Ao Thalane is the variety of things you get to see. We started the tour by stopping at a small secluded beach that was cute and tucked away. This beach is only accessible by boat so it has a unique charm that you won’t soon forget!

Next, we paddled through the Ao Thalane canyon. The canyon will definitely be the highlight of your tour. The waters are still and calm inside the canyon, so you will really feel the peacefulness of nature here. You will see unique limestone mountains and a beautiful mangrove forest as you wind through the waterways.

How Difficult is Kayaking at Ao Thalane?

Physically, kayaking at Ao Thalane requires a moderate amount of effort. When you are paddling to the canyon, you will be traveling against the current so it will take quite a bit of effort to move forward. However, returning to the pier is quite easy because you will be paddling with the current making your journey much easier.

This activity is best for those in good health and with no restrictions in upper body movement.

The water is quite deep as well, but as long as you wear the provided lifejacket, you will have nothing to worry about.

How to Get to Ao Thalane

Ao Thalane is about 30 minutes north of Ao Nang Beach, which is the most popular area to stay in Krabi. You can either book a tour that includes transportation to and from your hotel, or you can drive yourself by renting a motorbike or a car. Motorbike rentals start at 200 Baht ($6.42 USD) a day and car rentals start at 800 Baht per day ($25.70 USD) and are both great options for exploring the areas of Krabi outside of the main walking streets. Unfortunately, there are no public transportation options to get to Ao Thalane.

How to Book a Kayaking in Ao Thalane

We booked our tour through Ao Thalane Kayak Krabi and took a two-hour tour to see the secluded beach, the canyon, and the mangrove forest. It was only 600 Baht ($19.42 USD) per person which we thought was a great value for the guided tour.

You can also do a half-day tour to see even more of the area including the multiple canyons and caves. I really wish we could have seen the caves while we were in the area, but the tide was not at the correct level when we were there, so we were unable to get to the cave.
